Disasters

This is the second project in cooperation with L'Appât printing studio in Brussels.

The drawings are inspired by Goya's Los desastres de la guerra, depicting the horrors and atrocities of the Peninsular War (1808–1814), which was part of the larger Napoleonic Wars.

Artistically, Goya's set of etchings for this series are some of the most intricate drawings of humans and human interactions ever created. The drawings are 'parodied' in a playful non-horrific way, but the underlying threat remains present in the creepy atmosphere...

whale-book
'Disasters' (18 x 19 cm) is a hand bound 28 page book containing 30 drawings.

It's a limited edition of 300 copies printed with an old Heidelberg printing press. The machine uses polymer master plates and high pressure to really stamp the drawing into the paper so the image has a slight relief. The rendering is absolutely razor-sharp.

For those of us born in the eighties analog just means better, right?

Order it here (free shipping!). I hope you will enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your comments! Thanks to Tim Van Herck for the pics.
